Review

VMWare player is an application that allows you to "play" virtual machines. VMware specializes in developing software for the creation of virtualization environments; that is to say, to recreate other operative systems' functionality on another OS. This is an application that can load those virtual machines and let you use them. However, it should be noted that VMware Player does not enable you to create the virtual machines. For that, you should get VMWare Workstation, among others. The developers of this application are also encouraging the user to download this application to try "built-in" appliances. From what I have understood, those are already packed operative systems that serve a single purpose. For example, on the website of VMWare Player, there is a link to a Browsing appliance, which is basically a virtual machine with a secure browser setup integrated. All in all, if you need to open your virtual machines on several computers, this is the cheapest way to get it done, and while you are at it, you can try those appliances, too.
Advantages
  • It's free.
  • It allows you to use your virtual machines on any computer.
Disadvantages
  • None.
